GFX SmoothCam — Cinematic First & Third Person Camera Transitions for FiveM

GFX SmoothCam is a free, standalone FiveM script that replaces GTA V's instant camera snap with a smooth, cinematic glide every time a player presses V to switch between first and third person view. No framework required, no configuration needed — install it and it works on any FiveM server immediately.

What Does GFX SmoothCam Do?

By default, GTA V switches between first person and third person with a hard instant cut. GFX SmoothCam intercepts the view change and plays a scripted camera ease-blend in its place — a smooth, fluid glide that travels from the third-person camera position all the way to the player's head (or back out). The transition works in both directions and in all scenarios: on foot, driving, or as a passenger.

Key Features

  • Smooth Two-Way Camera Transitions — Third → First person AND First → Third person both use a cinematic glide instead of a snap. Most similar scripts only handle one direction.
  • Works On Foot & In Vehicles — Fully functional whether the player is walking or driving at high speed. In vehicles, the camera anchors to the vehicle entity (not the ped bone) to eliminate any jitter during movement.
  • No First-Person Arms During Glide — The engine never activates the real first-person camera until the glide completes, so no awkward arm animations appear mid-transition.
  • Combat-Safe Design — Automatically bypasses the smooth transition while the player is aiming. Gunfights and combat are never interrupted or delayed.
  • Fully Configurable — Adjust transition duration (default 700ms), post-blend settle delay, head forward offset, and per-context view modes via a clean config.lua.
  • Safe Resource Cleanup — Scripted cameras are automatically destroyed if the resource stops mid-glide. No stuck cameras or visual artifacts.
  • Lightweight & Pure Client-Side — No server scripts, no database queries, no inventory checks. Minimal performance footprint.

Who Is This For?

GFX SmoothCam is ideal for any FiveM server that values immersion and polish — roleplay servers, life servers, racing servers, or any community where players regularly switch between first and third person view. The cinematic transition replaces one of the most commonly noticed rough edges in GTA V's default behavior.

Compatibility

  • Framework: Standalone — compatible with ESX, QBCore, QBox, and any other framework
  • Side: Pure client-side — no server resource required
  • Dependencies: None
  • FiveM Build: Compatible with all current FiveM server builds

Requirements

  • FiveM server (any framework or fully standalone)
